April Prelude, NYC

Central Park is like the rest of the surrounding Manhattan variety of natural dwellings that are diverse, intricate, and interconnected and busy. Each year more than 40 million visitors come to the Park to find sanctuary, personal space or socialize, and connect to fellow birders, bikers, runners, walkers, caregivers, baby sitters, dog owners, just to step off the giant mechanical wheel of the city.

Central park is an ecological landscape experiment designed 160 years ago Different types of terrain work in harmony with one another to comprise the wider Park ecosystem and a Prelude to a greener world.

Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision for Central Park over 160 years ago.

“The beauty of the park should be the beauty of the fields, the meadow, the prairie, of the green pastures, and the still waters. What we want to gain is tranquility and rest to the mind. If the Park was going to elicit the same “sense of enlarged freedom” that comes from being in nature—but in the heart of a growing city—its landscapes had to reflect the variable topography of nature itself”

Today, each landscape—from lawns to water bodies to woodlands - nurture various plants, animals, and people who rely on the Park to stay healthy and happy.
